The Prime Minister of Armenia meets with the IWF representatives to discuss 2027 IWF Worlds in Yerevan

Today the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, met with the representatives of the executive board of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), namely the president Mohammed Jalood and the general secretary Antonio Urso, regarding the organization of the future IWF World Weightlifting Championships that will be held in the Armenian capital Yerevan.

It needs to be mentioned that it will be the first time that the IWF competition will be held in Armenia at the world level. Such a decision was taken by the IWF Executive Board on the 29th of March in Phuket (THA) during the IWF World Cup.

The Armenian bid for arranging the 2027 IWF World Championships was supported by the IWF. Previously, Yerevan has already successfully held the European weightlifting championships in 2023.

The IWF president Mohammed Jalood confirmed that this Worlds would become an ultimate key point for Armenian history and the history of the IWF as well.

Moreover, this country can be proud of strong weightlifters who represent Armenia with success on the world arena.

I have no doubts that these Championships will be a milestone in our history and will inspire many young lifters in Armenia – already a very strong nation in weightlifting – to pursue their career. This is also the legacy that was emphasized by the Prime Minister.

The level of commitment, interest, and involvement of the Armenian government is also solid, which is a great sign of trustworthy guarantee that this competition will become one of the most remarkable events in the weightlifting world.
