Morris Hampton Sets a First World Record in the 50 years for USA at IWF World Cup

With the Paris Olympic Games approaching, athletes are eagerly eyeing their last chance for qualification at the ongoing IWF World Cup in Thailand.

True to tradition, the competition began with the lightweight categories, and today, we had the pleasure of witnessing the incredible showdown between the athletes competing in the 61 kg category.

For Morris Hampton of the United States, it’s safe to say that the competition day was more than successful. The American got a total of 303 kg, with 127 kg in the Snatch and an incredible 176 kg in the Clean & Jerk, which was enough to get him the gold medal for that lift and to also set a new World Record for the category.

For the US, this is the first senior world record in more than 50 years, and the expectations on Morris Hampton’s shoulders only became heavier after this great outing.
