Lalayan Varazdat won Gold in The Men’s 109+ kg Category At The 2024 IWF Weightlifting World Cup

We’re reaching the end of the IWF World Cup, and so it is time for the truly heavyweight categories to shine.

With Olympic qualifications on the line and a lot of the favorites missing out on the competition, new stars were able to captivate spectators and showcase what they could do on the big stage.

Lalayan Varazdat from Armenia had an incredible day, truly showing terrific form from the start to the end. In the Snatch, he was able to lift 210 kg, and even though not all of his attempts were successful, he still managed to win the gold medal for the exercise.

After that, in the Clean & Jerk, Varazdat was able to perform just as well, lifting 253 kg for the second gold medal of the day. With a total of 463 kg, the Armenian won the overall gold medal for the category, improving his previous personal best by 3 kg.

So far in his career, the Armenian has several medals from European and World Championships; however, he still hasn’t won a big title. His current form, however, is the best he’s ever been in, and he’s improving his personal bests just in time for the Paris Olympics.
