Day 12 of the World Cup  in Thailand became remarkable due to bright performance in the Men’s heavyweight 109-kg category. Eight lifters presented strenuous performances full of thrilling moments.

The winner in today’s weight class was Akbar Djuraev from Uzbekistan who lifted 189 kg in Snatch at the third attempt, 227 kg in Clean & Jerk at the second lift, and a total of 416 kg.

Akbar Djuraev Gold Snatch at IWF Weightlifting World Cup 2024

The second place moved to Dadash Dadashbeyli from Azerbaijan who got in total of 388 kg, he lifted 177 kg in Snatch, and 211 kg in Clean & Jerk.

The bronze medalist was Zaza Lomtadze from Georgia: he lifted 170 kg in Snatch,  209 kg in Clean & Jerk, and got 379 kg in total.

Top Athletes’ Review

Let’s observe today’s leaders by reminding their key accomplishments of their latest performances.

The Men’s 109-kg weight category winner Akbar Djuraev from Uzbekistan, is an Olympic and Junior World Champion. He won gold at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, he’s a two-time gold medalist at the world championships, and a three-time silver and bronze medalist at the Asian Championships and Asian Games. By the way, his Olympic Record was 430 kg in total, thus today he presented an average total result for him.

The silver medalist, Dadash Dadashbeyli from Azerbaijan, is a bronze medalist at the 2023 World Championships, is a 2024 European Champion, a 2021 European Champion. He started his weightlifting career in 2007 by winning gold competing at the weightlifting competitions among juniors.

His last performance at the European Champs in Sofia resulted with three golds: 176 kg in Snatch, 212 kg in Clean & Jerk, and a total of 388 kg. And today he showed almost equal weights on the bar clinching the silver medal.

The bronze medalist, Zaza Lomtadze from Georgia was competing at the 2023 EWF European Junior & U23 Championships in Bucharest resulting in gold with 161-210-371.

Snatch results:

Having analyzed the Snatch round, we can state that the performance was pretty good because there were minimal unsuccessful lifts. Just two athletes had two failed lifts.

Clean & Jerk results:

The Clean & Jerk exercise showed that two lifters had two red lights, while two athletes, namely from the second and third places, refused to perform their last attempts.

  • 🥇Akbar Djuraev (UZB) – 227 kg
  • 🥈Dadashbayli Dadash (AZE) – 211 kg
  • 🥉Viera Espinoza Hernan Moises (PER) – 210 kg
