The IWF World Cup in Thailand serves as the ultimate opportunity for athletes to secure their spots in the highly anticipated Olympic Games slated for later this year.

As per usual, the competition kicked off with the lightweight categories for both men and women and today, we had the opportunity to enjoy the full-scale gladiator battle during the men’s 61 kg category.

For Irawan Eko Yuli from Indonesia, things started off well as he was able to lift 133 kg on the Snatch, which was enough to win him the silver medal for this event.

Unfortunately, his performance during the Clean & Jerk wasn’t nowhere near as good as required and he couldn’t even place in the overall table. 

So far in his career, the Indonesian has won the World Championships and the Asian Games and has two silver and two bronze medals from four different Olympic Games.

He’s hoping to make a fifth appearance and hopefully achieve a good result this summer in Paris, and so far, he’s on course to make that happen.
