The Ukrainian Weightlifter and Two-Time European Champion Pielieshenko Passed Away While Defending His Country

On behalf of the Torokhtiy and Warm Body Cold Mind team, we want to inform you that today we got very sad news in the world of weightlifting: 

On the 6th of May 2024, the life ended of the Ukrainian weightlifter Oleksandr Pielieshenko who was just 30 years old. He fought in the Ukrainian-Russian war since 2022, but the details of the athlete’s death weren’t provided. 

Let’s remember Oleksandr’s most remarkable performances and accomplishments. He was the honored master of sports of Ukraine and two-time European Champion (2016 and 2017).

Namely, he took gold in Split (Croatia) due to the Snatch of 175 kg, Clean & Jerk of 211 kg, and 386 kg in total, which were his personal bests in the career. At the 2016 Europeans in Forde, Norway, Oleksandr showed the results of 168-204-372, finishing first with gold.

Oleksandr was also competing for Ukraine in the 85-kg weight category at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro: he finished 4th with results of 175-210-385.

At the 2015 World Championships in Houston, he ranked 4th as well with the following results: 167-201-368.
