Other news announced at this congress was the retirement of Antonio Urso, who served three terms as president of the EWF and is now general secretary of the IWF. He is expected to remain in office until the next IWF elections, which are set to happen in the first part of 2025.

Along with that, IWF President Jalood was awarded the highest possible EWF honor, the “Gold Collar,” by Antonio Conflitti, EWF President, with the following message:

Considering your admirable commitment in supporting sport and Olympic values, also considering the outstanding achievements in leading the IWF through the worst moment in our sport’s history, confirming weightlifting in the Olympic program, and establishing confidence with the IOC, I am honored to present you this recognition.”
