Marcos Ruiz’s Grabs Attention Before Worlds

The Road To Førde (Norway)
Seven weeks out from the 2025 IWF World Championships in Førde, Norway (Oct 2–11), training halls are getting noisy. The hosts are almost ready to welcome spectators, and the venue is set to welcome a big, reshuffled field.
This Worlds will be the first senior global meet fully contested under the IWF’s new eight men’s and eight women’s bodyweight categories, in effect since June 1. For men, that means 60, 65, 71, 79, 88, 98, 110, and +110 kg. Expect fresh rivalries and a few surprise moves between classes
A 200 kg (for reps!) Statement
Spain’s Marcos Ruiz posted a crisp “3+1” complex (three cleans plus one jerk) with 200 kg on Instagram. It’s a classic confidence piece: repeated heavy cleans to stress leg strength and bar speed, capped with a composed jerk. Ruiz owns national records in the old 102 category, including big clean & jerk and total numbers. A 200 kg complex in training fits right into that profile of power and capacity.
Reading The Class Chessboard
With the new categories, Ruiz sits at a crossroads: down to 98 or up to 110. He hasn’t announced his Worlds class, and both paths are viable given his recent competition bodyweights.
At 98, expect a collision of former 96s and 102s chasing early world standards. At 110, the names get even bigger — established 109–102 powerhouses stepping into the new ceiling before superheavy.
Why This Matters
Training clips aren’t medals, but they are signals. Ruiz’s 200 kg complex shows durability after a busy 2024–25 and the kind of overhead assurance coaches love to see in October.
If he strings together a steady snatch series and keeps his trademark speed through the clean, he’s a factor in whichever class he declares. File this one under “prep lifts that matter”: big enough to impress, controlled enough to suggest there’s more on the bar when it counts in Førde.

I’m Vladyslava, and sport has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Over the past 10 years, I’ve explored it all – from CrossFit and powerlifting to running a half marathon. But my true passion found its home in Olympic weightlifting.
I’m proud to be a Ukrainian Weightlifting Champion (2018) and a prize winner of national championships in 2018–2019. My best lifts? A 57 kg snatch and a 73 kg clean & jerk in the 51 kg weight class. I’m also a Candidate for Master of Sports in weightlifting – and I’m still chasing new goals every day.
Beyond training, I’ve earned two Master’s degrees: one in Sport Management and another in Physical Education. Whether I’m lifting a barbell or helping others grow in sport, I’m all in – because for me, sport isn’t just a hobby, it’s a lifestyle.
