Karlos Nasar Won Gold in the Men’s 89 kg Category at the 2024 IWF Weightlifting World Cup 

As the run-up to the Paris Olympics intensifies, athletes worldwide are seizing their last opportunity to secure coveted spots at the upcoming Games, with the IWF World Cup in Thailand serving as the battleground.

Today’s spotlight was on the captivating clash unfolding within the men’s 89 kg category. Spectators were treated to an electrifying showdown as competitors battled it out for glory and Olympic qualification. 

Karlos Nasar’s Snatch World Record 181 kg

Karlos Nasar has been the star of the 89 kg category this year, as he has already won the European Championships and set a new Junior World Record. His fantastic show of form continued in Phuket, as he was able to once again wow the public.

The Bulgarian started off the competition well, lifting 181 kg on the Snatch on his final attempt, which set a new World Record (that was later improved upon) and winning the silver medal for the event. Nasar was even better on the Clean & Jerk, lifting 215 kg on his first attempt and winning the gold medal then and there.

Karlos used his final two Clean & Jerk attempts to set a new World Record and get close to lifting 224 kg twice. After a tough competition day and a total of 396 kg, he won his second competition of the year and is in a prime position for the gold medal in Paris. 

In his career, Nasar has won every major title (aside from the Olympic one) and has set multiple Junior and Senior records. As one of the most exciting stars of the weightlifting world, Nasar is a favorite to win the Olympic gold in Paris later this year.
