Karlos Nasar Beats His Own World Record In Preparation for the European Championship

A little over two months ago, Karlos Nasar set the world record for the Clean&Jerk in the 89 kg division during the IWF World Cup in Doha. The Bulgarian, who had missed many months due to injury, managed to lift 223 kg (2 kg more than his previous record) and set a new world record for the lift. For Karlos, his win during the World Cup in Doha secured his spot for the Paris Olympics, and his undeniable ability to break world records puts him as one of the favorites for the gold medal this summer.

The 19-year-old Bulgarian’s latest incredible lift happened yesterday during a training session before the start of the European Championship, which will be held in Nasar’s home country. In a short video uploaded to Instagram stories, Karlos can be seen breaking his own world record by lifting 225 kg (again, a 2 kg jump from his previous record).

The European Championship is set to start on February 12th, after it was postponed due to the move from Turkey to Bulgaria, and even though Karlos has already qualified for Paris, his home country will expect to see him crowned as the European champion on home soil.

Although he is still very young, Nasar has achieved quite a lot in the world of weightlifting, having already won multiple titles as a Junior, a world title in the 81 kg division, and a European Championship in the 89 kg division.
