Day 6 of the IWF World Cup in Thailand displayed a vigorous lifting session in the Men’s 81-kg weight category, where eight male athletes were performing in the Group A.

The winner in today’s weight category was RI Chong Song who did 366 kg in total being 38 kilos ahead of his opponent in second place. He snatched 166 kg at the third attempt and lifted 200 kg in Clean & Jerk at the first attempt.
The second place moved to MEREDOV Maksad from Turkmenistan who lifted 146 kg on the second attempt in the Snatch exercise, 182 kg in Clean & Jerk at the second lift, resulting in 328 kg.
The bronze medalist was GUERTIN Samuel from Canada. He snatched 140 kg at the third attempt, 175 kg in Clean & Jerk at the second lift, and got 315 kg overall.
Top Athletes’ Review
The Men’s 81-kg weight category winner RI Chong Song is among the top 10 Korean lifters. Today he showed 9 kilos less in the Clean & Jerk exercise: at Grand Prix II in Qatar he equalled the C&J World Record of 209 kg. While in the Snatch exercise, he lifted 3 kilos less compared to his performance at the 2024 Asian Championships where he did 169 kg.
Speaking about the silver medalist, MEREDOV Maksad from Turkmenistan previously at the 2021 Asian Championships in Turkmenistan lifted 147 kg in Snatch, 189 kg in Clean & Jerk, with a total of 336 kg resulting in second spot as well.
The bronze holder, Canadian GUERTIN Samuel, was previously competing at the cross-training competitions. Today he improved his results significantly since at the recent events, namely the 2023 Worlds in Riyadh he ranked 16th.
Snatch results:
Considering the Snatch session, we can claim that the performance was pretty good, as only two athletes had two red lights. However, a Bulgarian weightlifter Bozhidar Andreev didn’t perform today.

Clean & Jerk results:
During the Clean & Jerk exercise, three athletes had two no lifts. While a Bulgarian Bozhidar Andreev didn’t lift today despite being included in the entry list.

- 🥉GUERTIN Samuel (CAN) – 175 kg
