Egypt’s Weightlifting Champion

Abbas Halima Abdelazim Sedky was born on May 5th, 1995, and she’s a prominent Egyptian weightlifter that competes in the +87 kg and +90 kg categories. Sedky has been very successful in international weightlifting and she’s had a series of impressive performances across different championships. Her career highlights include gold medals at the African Championships and the All African Games in 2019, as well as strong performances at the World Championships in 2022 and 2023. As she prepares for future competitions, she remains a strong competitor on the global stage. 

Sedky’s weightlifting career took off with a gold medal at the 2012 African Junior Championships in the +75 kg category with a total lift of 233 kg. This early win showed her potential and set the stage for a successful career. 

In 2014, she earned a silver medal at the IWF Junior World Championships in the +75 kg weight class. Her success continued with a strong performance at the 2015 IWF World Championships, where she ranked 19th in the +75 kg category with a total lift of 251 kg. This result showed her continuous progress.

Her career progressed when she switched to the +87 kg category. At the 2018 African Championships, she won a gold medal with a total lift of 263 kg; 113 kg in the snatch and 150 kg in the clean and jerk.

In 2019, she won gold medals at both the African Championships and the 12th All African Games. She lifted a total of 265 kg at the African Championships and 272 kg at the All African Games, with impressive individual lifts of 121 kg in the snatch and 151 kg in the clean and jerk. 

At the 2022 IWF World Championships, she finished 6th in the +87 kg category with a total of 275 kg. Her strong performances continued at the 2023 World Championships, where she ranked 4th with a total of 272 kg. 

She’s still very successful – at the 2024 African Championships, Sedky won a gold medal with a total of 262 kg (117 kg in the snatch and 145 kg in the clean and jerk).
