Asian Weightlifting Championships 2025: Luo Chongyang Triumphs in Men’s 81 kg Category; Juniansyah Rizki took Silver

The Asian Weightlifting Championships 2025 in Jiangshan, China, have delivered yet another electrifying competition, this time in the Men’s 81 kg weight class, featuring Olympic champions, rising stars, and international debutants.
The 81 kg Category in the Spotlight
The 81 kg division is already becoming one of the most fiercely contested categories ahead of the IWF’s upcoming bodyweight categories change (from June 1, 2025).
Luo Chongyang (CHN) – Making his international debut, Luo was relatively unknown entering the event but quickly proved he was a force to reckon with.
Rizki Juniansyah (INA) – Olympic Champion at 73 kg, now moving up to 81 kg. Interesting to see his performance in a new weight class.
Son Hyeonho (KOR) – A clean & jerk bronze medalist at the 2023 Worlds. He’s steadily gaining ground among Asia’s best.
Khayitboy Abdushukurov (UZB) – Junior talent making waves, showing technical improvements and PRs in both lifts.
Gaygysyz Torayev (TKM) – Bronze medallist at last year’s Asian Championships, looking to upgrade his podium standing.
Hafizuddin Muhammad (MAS), Mahmoud Al Humayd (KSA), and others filled out the field, including two promising lifters from Singapore – Koh Keith and Loh Yuan Yee – both doubling as athletes and national coaches.
Snatch Recap: Luo Surprises, Rizki Finds Rhythm
The snatch session began with lighter lifters from Singapore and Malaysia, setting respectable totals and energizing the crowd. As the bar moved past 145 kg, serious contenders began to enter.
Torayev from Turkmenistan impressed with a smooth 152 kg lift. Abdushukurov answered with a 151 kg personal best after finding his pull on the third attempt.
Rizki Juniansyah, opening light as always, cruised through 150, 156, and finally a strong 161 – a remarkable performance as he transitions to the heavier class. Son Hyeonho matched his previous world-level consistency with a 157 kg finish.
Then came Luo Chongyang. After a surprising miss at 160 kg at first attempt, he not only recovered but climbed to 162 (then failing 3rd attempt at 166) – sealing gold in snatch and signaling his arrival on the international stage.

- 🥇 Gold – Luo Chongyang (CHN) – 162 kg
- 🥈 Silver – Rizki Juniansyah (INA) – 161 kg
- 🥉 Bronze – Son Hyeonho (KOR) – 157 kg
Clean & Jerk Recap: Son Fights Back, Luo Holds On
Early lifts by Al Humayd (179 kg), Torayev (188 kg), and Huang (186 kg) added depth but not threat to the top 3.
Rizki put up 190 and 197 kg for his first two good lifts, improving his total to 358. Luo opened with 195 kg, then nailed 200 kg to keep pace. Son answered with 200 kg at his first and successful attempt.
Both Luo and Rizki failed their 3rd attempts (both at 202 kg). Son failed his second and third attempts at 206 kg, however secured first place in Clean and Jerk.

- 🥈 Silver – Luo Chongyang (CHN) – 200 kg
- 🥉 Bronze – Rizki Juniansyah (INA) – 197 kg

- Son Hyeonho’s push to challenge for gold with a massive 200 kg clean & jerk lifted him to overall bronze.

- Singapore’s team doubled as athletes and coaches, showcasing impressive development of their national program.
