As the IWF World Cup in Thailand reaches its final stretch, anticipation mounts as the heavyweight divisions take center stage. With Olympic qualification at stake and pressure reaching its peak, the competition could have easily spiraled into chaos.
Yet, the women competing in the 81 kg category exhibited remarkable resilience, delivering stellar performances with their Olympic dreams hanging in the balance.
Eileen Cikamatana entered the competition as one of the favorites to medal, and her outing wasn’t disappointing by any means. The Australian started off well, missing the podium for the Snatch lift by just one kilogram, having lifted 114 kg compared to Kim Iseul’s 115 kg.

However, Cikamatana redeemed herself in the Clean & Jerk, where she proved herself to be better than the rest of the competition by lifting 149 kg and claiming the gold medal for the exercise.
With a total of 263 kg, the Australian finished with the bronze medal in the overall ranking for the 81 kg category, missing out on the silver medal by just 4 kg.
In her career so far, Cikamatana has won two IWF World Cups, the Commonwealth Games and has a silver medal from the World Championships in 2022. Heading into the Olympics in great shape, it’s clear that the Australian’s goal is to become one of the sensations in Paris.
