Weightlifting’s Olympic Rebirth: Inclusion in the 2028 Games Marks a Historic Milestone

On October 13 2023 something remarkable occurred; weightlifting was officially included in the roster of sports, for the 2028 Olympic Games set to take place in Los Angeles, USA.

This decision had been deliberated upon by the Olympic Program Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It was subsequently approved by the executive committee. The proposal is expected to undergo ratification on October 16 2022. If all goes according to plan there will be a groundbreaking announcement in Mumbai, India introducing this addition to the world of sports.

It’s important to note that this decision did not happen out of air; it was a result of discussions between the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and the IOC. The IWFs request aligns with their president and executive boards vision for promoting and expanding weightlifting on a scale.
