New Straps V2 - WBCM

Out of the 100+ powerlifters who entered the cup from all over the USA, a whopping 52 came from the state of New York, followed by 11 from Massachusetts and 8 from Texas.

The lifters were sorted among different divisions. To ensure the competition ran smoothly and efficiently, it was organized into two sessions on each of the two days, with Flights A-F on Day 1, and Flights A-D on Day 2. Ultimately, all the participants were separated into ‘Best Male’ and ‘Best Female’ categories, where they were ranked based on the DOTS and Wilks scoring systems (DOTS being the one on which the placements were based), ensuring fair competition across the various weight classes.

This event has proved to show the main goal of powerlifting: to demonstrate to the audience the remarkable capabilities of the human body.

Final Thoughts

The cup concluded on June 30, Sunday. The event showcased amazing lifts across all the participants, 96 of which (male and female) secured finishing placements.

A highlight of the event was the Albany (NY) native Antonino Marcello Fazio, who initially started his sports path in basketball but, while still in highschool, transitioned into powerlifting, where he built a name for himself and became a notable figure in the sport. Fazio, who recently won the 2024 Arnold Sports Festival Bench Press Championships, added another accolade to his name by winning this year’s powerlifting cup.

The USA Powerlifting Open World Cup provided a platform for individual achievements, enabling powerlifters to hone their already-built glory or start off their journey to receive world renown. The event promises even greater competition and international participation as it raises the bar and moves to England next year. We cannot wait to see how things will unfold!
